In Spring 2025, the College of Graduate Studies graduated some great talent. Among these were
Md Momen Shahriar Joarder (Industrial Engineering master’s student under Dr. Robert Kelley Bradley) has accepted a place in the Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering program at Clemson University.
Seyyed Saeed Vaezzadeh (Industrial Engineering) doctoral student, also under Dr. Robert Kelly Bradley) has been offered several post-doctoral positions.
We also have the very unusual co-graduation of Jonathan Read, with his M.S. in Mathematics and his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering.
The College of Graduate Studies’ own Administrative Coordinator, Kristan Traxler, completed her M.S. in Applied Psychology--Clinical Concentration. We congratulate her on this accomplishment.
As well, the Collge of Graduate Studies was able to support Jiyoon Jeon (Biological Sciences master’s student under Dr. Ashwini Kucknoor), who won a paper prize at our 3rd Annual Graduate Research Conference this past February, with travel to present a paper accepted at the prestigious IMMUNOLOGY2025 conference in Hawaii.
Here are a few remarks that Jeon offered about he conference trip :
Beyond the academic significance, attending the conference in Honolulu held deep personal meaning for me. The Attack on Pearl Harbor is a pivotal moment not only in U.S. history but also in Korean history. Korea's journey from one of the poorest nations to one of the world’s most advanced countries over 70 years reflects our resilience, adaptability, and accountability. Yet, this progress was built upon profound suffering, the effects of which continue to shape society today. These reflections fuel my passion for studying trauma—particularly how stress, in its many forms, leaves lasting marks on the brain and even the DNA, sometimes passed down through generations. Visiting Hawaii served as a powerful reminder of why I aspire to become a physician-scientist in the field of neurotrauma.
At the conference, I had the opportunity not only to present and discuss my findings with fellow immunologists, but also to explore recent research topics and cutting-edge technologies shaping the future of immunology. I connected with scientists from other academic institutions such as MIT and Yale, as well as professionals from industry leaders like IVIM Technology and Invitrogen.
In the meantime, LU Moment did a podcast April 30 on two of our engineering faculty, Dr. Kiv Hasselbach and D. Nicholas Bake, and their important work for flood/hurricane resilience in our hurricane-prone region. 番茄社区 University engineering programs are cutting-edge. See for yourself!
